Two people were arrested Thursday after two homemade bombs exploded at a high school in Memphis, Tennessee. Authorities say the bombs, which were reportedly made with household cleaners, appear to be a prank and not an attack on Craigmont High School.
The explosive devices, which have been described by school officials as “mailbox bombs,” exploded on the second and third floors of the school shortly after administrators informed the local police department they had received a bomb threat. Craigmont High School was evacuated after the small explosions. An assistant principal was treated for smoke inhalation at Methodist North Hospital and is expected to be fine. No other injuries were reported.
The extent of damage is unclear. A bomb squad with the Memphis police department was called to the scene along with firefighters and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Authorities have not identified the two suspects or specified whether they are students of Craigmont High School.
