Three federal immigration agents shot in Northern California while serving warrant

Three ICE agents were shot early Thursday morning when trying to serve a warrant, where the suspect was considered to be “high risk.”

ICE agents in SWAT gear, attempting to serve a warrant for a criminal investigation, asked residents in the area to leave prior to the shooting. Agents surrounded and entered a two story house by blowing a hole in the garage door. Shortly after they entered the building, people nearby heard numerous shots coming from inside.

Three agents were wounded, but their injuries are not life-threatening. One agent had to be flown to a local hospital.

One suspect has been taken into custody.

Another ICE agent was also shot in an unrelated incident in Los Angeles County. The agent’s son, 14, has been charged with his shooting, but authorities are unclear about the motive.

ICE agents are tasked with serving warrants on illegal immigrants who are known to be in the U.S. illegally or people who have outstayed their HB-1 and work visas. This sometimes means they encounter dangerous individuals who will to extremes to stay in the U.S.

All alien residents face deportation to their native countries unless they enlist the help of a California immigration attorney to get them the necessary legal documents.

An immigration lawyer is capable of helping an immigrant with a number of issues including work visas, green cards, asylum and naturalization. An immigration attorney increases the chances that the hopeful citizen can obtain the legal status they need to remain in the United States.
