California law enforcement start increased DUI enforcement ahead of Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo is Saturday with celebrations marked by drinking lots of alcohol. And California law enforcement agencies will increase their efforts to stop drunk driving.

Starting Friday and continuing until Sunday police will set up DUI checkpoints and have additional police patrolling streets all across the state to keep intoxicated drivers out of their cars.

According to the California Highway Patrol, statistics show that the highest number of or DUI deaths and injuries occur late Saturday night to Sunday morning.

Police offer tips to avoid a drink driving arrests such as designating a sober driver, arrange rides with friend or family or take a cab. But many people, especially if they are intoxicated often believe they are able to drive and soon find themselves in need of a DUI lawyer, because of their lack of sound judgment.

A DUI or a DWI has serious consequences and the offender will need a strong DUI defense. Even a small amount of alcohol can cause impaired driving. In some instances, a DUI attorney can ask the courts for leniency on behalf of their clients, but judges often hand down stiff penalties.

An offender could spend time in jail and may lose their driving privileges. The fines associated with a drunk driving offense can be very costly.

Contesting a DUI is possible, but the accused must retain a California DUI lawyer as soon as they are able so they can begin gathering all the evidence they need for an effective defense.
