3 US Marines Killed In Eastern Afghanistan

Three soldiers were killed Monday in an explosion in eastern Afghanistan, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force confirmed. ISAF officials did not release the nationalities of the dead, but several Western officials speaking anonymously said all three soldiers were United States Marines.

The explosion was reportedly caused by an IED, or improvised explosive device. The soldiers were traveling south of a military base in Ghazni province when their vehicle hit the IED. The explosion also left two American soldiers wounded, according to a Western official. No other details were released.

Meanwhile, the ISAF has confirmed two NATO service members died over the weekend in separate attacks. One soldier died after being shot by a gunman wearing an Afghan Army uniform while a second died when a roadside bomb exploded near an outpost in Paktia province.
