NHL scores and highlights from Tuesday night
The NY Rangers (10-7-1) scored three goals in the third period to overcome a two goal deficit and beat the New Jersey Devils (10-6-1) 3-2. Trailing 2-0 going into the third period the Rangers finally got on the board at 2:05 when Jamir Jagr found the back of the net. Just 26 seconds later Jagr did it again, tying the score 2-2. The Rangers only had to wait 1:04 to take the lead as Brendan Shanahan scored to go ahead goal.
Daymond Langkow scored a goal three minutes into the first period for Calgary (8-7-2) and the Flames skated past the St. Louis Blues (5-9-3) 2-0. Kristian Huselius scored the second goal for the Flames early in the third period. Andrew Ference added a power play goal for the Flames who won their fifth home game of the season. Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff stopped all 24 shots off the Blues sticks.
Oleg Saprykin scored a pair of goals and Yanic Perreault netted two more as the Phoenix Coyotes (5-12-0) surprised the Minnesota Wild (11-6-0) 4-3. Minnesota jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals from Pavol Demitra and Martin Skoula but couldn’t hold on to the advantage. Saprykin scored the game winner with just over four minutes remaining in the third period.
Johan Franzen scored a shorthanded goal for Detroit (12-4-1) and Daniel Cleary had two assists as the Red Wings beat the Vancouver Canucks (8-10-1) 3-2. Kevin Bieksa and Henrik Sedin each scored a goal for Vancouver in the loss. Detroit out-shot Vancouver 33-20 on the night.
