Chrysler Group has issued a voluntary recall for over 119,000 vehicles due to the small risk of a fuse causing the anti-lock brake system and electronic stability control system to malfunction. In a statement Monday the carmaker said the recall affects “approximately 119,072 U.S.-market 2011 and 2012 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans.”
“A plastic insert surrounding a fuse may be subject to distortion caused by thermal expansion and contraction. Such distortion could interrupt power to the ABS/ESC control system and temporarily suspend its function,” Chrysler said. “If the condition occurs, the ABS/ESC warning lamp will illuminate. However, basic brake function is still fully available.”
The recall includes 2011 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Chargers built between May 6, 2010 and July 26, 2011, and 2012 models built between Feb. 9 2011 and Dec. 20, 2011. The vehicles will be fitted with a new fuse in a different location.
"Despite a small number of incidents, we concluded it was in the best interest of our customers to repair the vehicles and eliminate the potential for this condition to occur," said David Dillon, Chrysler's head of product investigations and campaigns.
