Plaxico Burress indicted

The former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was indicted by a grand jury.  He was charged with weapon charges for shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub.  He now faces a minimum of three and a half years in prison if convicted.  This announcement was made on Monday by prosecutors.

The indictment charged Burress who is 33 with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment.  Antonio Pierce who was with Burress and drove him to the hospital the night of the incident was not indicted, and will not face a league suspension.  There were other parties involved like the security guard from the night club who carried the gun to  Pierce’s car and the hospital staff members who did not notify police that Burress had been shot.  These parties were not indicted.  Burress pleaded not guilty to weapon charges, and is free on 100,000 bail.
