Fired Delaware sheriff deputy alleges sexual harassment and discrimination

A former deputy for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department has filed a discrimination suit, alleging that she was fired after complaining that a co-worker sexually harassed her.

According to Janine Senanayake’s complaint, she received a lowered performance evaluation after she reported to her superior that another officer would make unwanted sexual comments towards her. The deputy repeatedly asked Senanayake to have his children.

Senanayake, who is of Asian descent, also believes that her race played a factor in her dismissal.

Retaliation is a common issue for people, who are subjected to workplace abuse, and report the incidents to supervisors. When an employee is fired, they can turn to a sexual harassment attorney to recover any lost wages.

Senanayake was involved in a recent scandal after news surfaced that she was having an affair with Sheriff Walter Davis, who recently resigned. Senanayake was also caught on camera sharing an intimate kiss with and Ohio police chief.

Senanayake also filed a sexual harassment lawsuit while employed with the Mountville Police Department.

Sexual harassment and discrimination can create a hostile work environment, which affects all employees, but especially the object of the abuse. The victims of this discrimination often find the misconduct won’t end until they retain a sexual harassment lawyer to intervene and hold the abuser accountable for their behavior.

Victims of sexual harassment are able to seek damages for the emotional distress that this behavior causes. A sexual harassment attorney will be able to obtain the maximum amount of compensation they deserve.
