Alcoa, Inc. AA, Almost $190 000 were given in grants by Alcoa Foundation

This is an initiative to help maintain trails throughout the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have garnered a $25,000 grant from the Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Inc. The grant was only part of $190,000 in grants announced last week to 11 nonprofit organizations. The recipients were chosen by Alcoa's Community Advisory Board, which is a group made up of 12 active community leaders.

The Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Inc. gave $20,000 to the Great Smoky Mountains Institute to expand its Citizen Science program, which gives non-scientists hands-on experience with real research projects.

"This year the board decided to focus on health and human services," said Christy Newman, community relations manager for Alcoa Inc.
