EnPro Industries, Inc., NPO - Second Quarter Loss for EnPro

EnPro Industries Inc. swung to a second-quarter loss of $105.7 million, or $5.30 per diluted share. In the same period last year, the Charlotte-based company earned $20.4 million, or 96 cents per diluted share.

The latest results include a noncash charge of $84.1 million, or $4.21 per diluted share. The charge stems from goodwill associated with EnPro’s GGB Bearing Technology and Plastomer Technologies businesses. EnPro previously announced the charge, saying it doesn’t affect the company’s liquidity.

Before asbestos-related expenses and other items, EnPro earned $9.5 million, or 47 cents per diluted share, in the most recent quarter. On that same basis, EnPro earned $28.7 million, or $1.35 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2008.
