Vidal Sassoon passed away this week at the age of 84. The legendary hairstylist, who waged a very private battle against leukemia in recent years, died Wednesday morning surrounded by family at his Bel Air home. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department says it appears Sassoon died of natural causes.
“He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years Ronnie, his children, grandchildren, family and friends,” the Sassoon family said in a statement.
Sassoon opened his first salon in London in 1954. He eventually became known for his “wash and wear” cuts and recreating the bob. Sassoon reached even greater fame after he gave Mia Farrow a pixie cut for her role in the 1967 film "Rosemary's Baby.” His success helped him launch a product line and salon chain bearing his name. Sassoon’s life and work was featured in the 2011 documentary “Vidal Sassoon: The Movie.”
Sassoon was married four times and had four children. In addition to wife Rhonda, Sassoon is survived by three of his children.
