After Hours - Celanese Corporation CE, Celanese Plans to Lay off Company’s 100 N.C. workers

Celanese Corporation, a global chemical company plans to lay off about 100 workers from its Cleveland County plant, as stated in the documents filed with the N.C. commerce department.

The plant, which has 150 workers and manufactures plastic and polyester products, has seen a “significant decline” in demand, particularly from the automotive and electronics sectors, company spokesman Travis Jacobsen said.

The layoffs will be permanent; the plant's polymer production unit will be closed entirely, and its compounding unit will be consolidated with a site in Kentucky, Jacobsen said.
