Daniel Craig begins his career as the new James Bond in American theaters today. The highly anticipated “Casino Royale” hit the big screen in the U.S. and will attempt to halt the cinematic juggernaut that is "Borat".
While Daniel Craig has taken some shots as the new Bond, reviews have been favorable for the British actor. While he has hit the screen in acclaimed films such as "Munich" and "Road to Perdition" many people doubted his ability to portray the Ian Fleming created role of James Bond. He’ll get his chance to prove the public wrong starting today. "Casino Royale" pits Bond against a banker. It is Bond’s mission to stop the banker from winning a casino tournament and using the money to fund a terrorist operation.
It seems like an unfair battle, Bond versus "Borat", but the international spy has never been up against a Kazakhstani, at least not like this one. "Borat" has continued to roll throughout the week and could attract an even bigger audience this weekend due to controversy surrounding potential lawsuits and unfair practices involving individuals who appeared in the film.
Will Ferrell has gained some momentum over the week with his new movie “Stranger than Fiction.” It placed fourth in the box-office after last weekend but has since moved to number two, overtaking Tim Allen’s “Santa Clause.”
Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, and William H. Macy hit the screen this weekend with “Bobby”. The film is an inside look into the assassination of Robert Kennedy at the hands of Sirhan B Sirhan. Also appearing in the film are Anthony Hopkins, Sharon Stone, Christian Slater, Helen Hunt, Harry Belafonte, Lindsay Lohan, and Elijah Wood.
“Candy” will bring American’s a closer look at Abbie Cornish, the Australian that has hit headlines for her rumored involvement with Ryan Phillippe and the demise of his relationship with Reese Witherspoon. Cornish stars with Heath Ledger in the film depicting a heroin junkie poet (Ledger) in love with an art student (Cornish).
“Happy Feet” hits theaters today as well. The animated story should draw a big crowd with the Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, and the late Steve Irwin.
Also opening this weekend:
"Fast Food Nation" with Greg Kinnear and William Valderrama
"For Your Consideration" with Eugene Levy and Parker Posey
"Let’s Go To Prison" with Will Arnett and Dax Shepard
