Energy Sector SPDR exchange-traded fund gained 26 cents, or 0.5%, to $50.93 during Friday's afternoon trading session. Climate-control systems company Ingersoll-Rand and power tool maker Black & Decker were among Friday's biggest gainers.
Ingersoll's stock gained $3.22, or 13.4%, to $27.30 after the company said its restructuring program proved to be more beneficial than expected and reported adjusted earnings of 50 cents a share, which handily beat the profit of 39 cents a share forecast by analysts.
