Two Hawaii men arrested for DUI after fatal car accident

Two men have been arrested for DUI following a fatal traffic accident which took the life of two teenage men.

The accident took place a little over a week ago on Queen Kaahumanu Highway at the intersection of Kawaihea Road, when the driver of a Honda, a 19 year-old Paaulio man, was struck by a pickup truck.

The impact of the crash ejected Kauaheaheokaua Lactoen, 19 and Rocky Pactol, 18 from the sedan. Lactoen died on the scene and Pactol died a short time later in the hospital. Neither of the two men was wearing their seat belts.

Police haven’t determined the exact cause of the accident, but believe the Honda ran a stop light when they were hit by the truck. The pickup driver, a 40 year-old Kamuela man, and the Honda driver were both arrested for DUI.

A DUI, no matter what state you live in, can result in a jail sentence and have a negative effect on a person’s future. Anyone who has been arrested for a DUI, whether they caused an accident or just got caught in a sweep will need an effective DUI offense. A skilled DUI lawyer will work on gathering evidence that can result in a reduction of charges.

Keeping your driving privileges and avoiding jail is possible when you hire a Hawaii DUI attorney who is familiar with the laws and judges in your area. Their representation will be instrumental in getting you a lesser sentence.

In some instances, a savvy DUI lawyer can help the accused contest the charges against them and perhaps get those charges dismissed.
