NBA scores and highlights from Friday night 11-17

Vince Carter had 28 points and 7 rebounds while Jason Kidd went for 17 points 9 rebounds and 6 assists and the New Jersey Nets (5-4) went on the road and beat the Indiana Pacers (4-5) 100-91. Al Harrington had 18 points for the Pacers and Jermaine O’Neal finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.

The Boston Celtics (3-6) scored 41 points in the fourth quarter and went on to beat the visiting Portland Trail Blazers (4-6) 118-90. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 29 points and Sebastian Telfair had 15 points and 7 assists in the win. Zach Randolph finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Trail Blazers.

LeBron James finished with 37 points for Cleveland (7-2) and the Minnesota Timberwolves fell cold in the second half as the Cavaliers marched to a 92-76 home win. After leading by 3 at the break, the Wolves could only manage 31 points in the second half. Kevin Garnett led Minnesota with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The New York Knicks (4-6) went on the road and beat up the Miami Heat (3-6) 100-76. Jamal Crawford led the Knicks with 19 points and Quentin Richardson added 11 rebounds and 6 assists as Miami struggled mightily in the second half. After trailing by 5 at the end of the first half, the Heat could only manage 27 points the rest of the way. Dwyane Wade led Miami with 20 points.

Rip Hamilton got hot for Detroit (4-5) scoring 27 points on the night and the Pistons got a balanced attack from their starting five to go on and beat the visiting Washington Wizards (3-5) 100-91. Rasheed Wallace finished with 10 boards and Chauncey Billups added 10 assists for the Pistons. Caron Butler led the Wizards with 24 points on the night while the Wizards remain winless on the road.
 
Tim Duncan led San Antonio (7-2) with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Beno Udrih dished off 9 assists and the Spurs beat the disappointing Chicago Bulls (3-6) 100-83. Ben Gordon once again led the Bulls with 27 points and Ben Wallace was able to grab 10 rebounds in the Chicago loss.
 
The Dallas Mavericks (4-4) have apparently righted their ship and won their fourth straight game, beating the Memphis Grizzlies (1-7) 115-103. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 26 points while Eric Dampier was big on the glass with 15 rebounds. The Mavericks trailed by 6 at the half but went on to out-score the Grizzlies 64-46 after the break.
 
Kobe Bryant became the fastest player in NBA history to reach 17,000 points and the Los Angeles Lakers (6-3) buckled down to beat the visiting Toronto Raptors (2-6) 107-100. Bryant led the Lakers with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in his record setting game. Chris Bosh finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Raptors who remain winless on the road this year.

The Phoenix Suns (3-5) continued to earn their wins at home after knocking of the visiting Philadelphia 76ers (4-4) 106-94. Leandro Barbosa led the Suns with 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Amare Stoudemire went for 23 points and 10 boards to lead the Suns to their third home win. Allen Iverson led the 76ers with 23 points and 8 assists.
 
The Utah Jazz (8-1) continue to march through the early season with impressive wins, this time going on the road to beat the Seattle Supersonics (4-6) 118-109. Deron Williams led the Jazz with 27 points and 8 assists while Carlos Boozer pulled down 13 rebounds. Seattle, now 1-3 at home, was led by Ray Allen who finished with 32 points.
