Illinois bus driver ticketed after 10 students were injured in traffic accident

Litchfield, IL- Illinois state police have charged the bus driver who caused a traffic accident, injuring 10 sixth-grade students Monday afternoon.

The bus carrying students from the Highland School District were returning from a field trip on Interstate 55 around 4:30 p.m., when the bus driver slammed into a tractor-trailer. Authorities believe the semi-truck was either slowing down or came to a stop as the driver approached a construction zone.

One student, Jessica Davis, 12, was airlifted to a local hospital with a broken leg that will likely require surgery. The bus driver and several other students were also injured and taken to the hospital. There were a total of 41 people on the bus with the majority of passengers incurring minor cuts and bruises.

Police have charged the bus driver, Henry Jaeger, with failure to reduce speed and failure to prevent an accident.
