NBA scores and highlights from Saturday night
Dwayne Wade equaled his season high with 37 points and Udonis Haslem added 21 points and 17 rebounds as the Miami Heat (4-5) capitalized on a cold shooting Atlanta Hawks (4-4) team and won 93-88 in overtime. The Hawks, who have now dropped three straight, were led by Joe Johnson who scored 22 points in the loss.
It was the Dwight Howard show once again as the sensational 2nd year center led the Orlando Magic (7-2) past the Charlotte Bobcats (2-7) 97-83. Howard scored 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds for the Magic and Darko Milicic had 14 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Emeka Okafor had 26 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for Charlotte.
Gilbert Arenas led the Washington Wizards (4-5) past the Cleveland Cavaliers (7-3) 111-99. Arenas putt 45 points on the board while Caron Butler added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards. LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 20 points. Cleveland could not manage to work its way back into the game after being outscored by 15 points in the third quarter.
The Detroit Pistons (5-5) went on a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Rockets (6-4) 104-92. Richard Hamilton had 30 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds to lead the Pistons. Rasheed Wallace grabbed 11 rebounds and added 15 points in the win. Yao Ming led the Rockets with 33 points and 16 rebounds.
The New Jersey Nets (5-4) could not dig themselves out of the hole they buried themselves in after their 8 first quarter points. Zach Randolph scored 20 points and had 16 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers (5-6) went on to win 86-68. Vince Carter led the Nets with 18 points.
Paul Pierce led the Boston Celtics (4-6) in their shootout win over the New York Knicks (4-7) 122-118. Pierce had 39 points and 9 rebounds for Boston while Ryan Gomes had 22 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Jamal Crawford had a huge game for the knicks, pouring in 37 points on the night. He was 4-9 from beyond the arch.
Peja Stojakovic hit a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer and the NO/Oklahoma City Hornets (7-3) beat the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-6) 99-96. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 35 points and 6 assists. Kevin Garnett finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.
The Dallas Mavericks (5-4) won their fifth straight game after beating the Memphis Grizzlies (1-8) 89-84. Dirk Nowitzki finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds and Jason Terry added 19 points and 7 rebounds to pace the Mavs. The Grizzlies were led by Rudy Gay who had 23 points and 7 rebounds. The Grizzlies shot 36 percent from the field while the Mavericks shot 46 percent.
A strong second half allowed the Indiana Pacers (5-5) to beat the Milwaukee Bucks (3-7) 102-100. The Pacers only scored 35 points in the first half and trailed by 15 heading in to the locker room. They then scored 32 in the third quarter and another 35 in the fourth. Jermaine O’Neil led the Pacers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Redd finished with 21 points for the Bucks.
The Denver Nuggets (4-4) won their fourth straight game Saturday night defeating the Toronto Raptors (2-7) 117-109. Carmelo Anthony had 34 points and 8 assists for the Nuggets while Reggie Evans came off the bench to score 10 points and nab 12 rebounds. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 31 points and 9 rebounds.
Four quarters weren’t enough to decide the game so the Utah Jazz (9-1) had to go to overtime to beat the Phoenix Suns (3-6) 120-117. Carlos Boozer had 22 points and 16 rebounds while Deron Williams had 25 points and 14 assists in the win. Shawn Marion had 35 points for the Suns and Amare Stoudemire finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Monta Ellis scored 31 points and Mickael Pietrus added 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors (7-3) beat the Seattle Supersonics (4-7) 107-95. Ray Allen led the Supersonics with 34 points and 11 rebounds. The Supersonics could only manage 56 percent shooting from the free throw line, going 14-25 from the charity stripe.
Elton Brand had 33 points and 12 rebounds and Corey Maggette added 21 points and 8 assists as the LA Clippers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 103-97 in overtime. Allen Iverson led the 76ers with 29 points and 9 assists. The Clippers out-rebounded the 76ers 49-33 on the night.
