Indian Actress Among Passengers Killed In Nepal Plane Crash

A child actress and her mother were among those killed Monday in a plane crash in a mountainous area of Nepal, officials in India confirm. The actress has been identified as 14-year-old Taruni Sachdev. Sachdev has appeared in numerous commercials, but she is best known for starring alongside father and son pair Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in 2009’s “Paa.”

"SHOCKED and very saddened to hear about the Nepal plane crash. Lost 1 of my cutest co-stars. Little Taruni Sachdev from PAA. Speechless.....," Abhishek tweeted.

The Dornier 228 aircraft, operated by Agni Air, was carrying 19 passengers and 3 crew members from Pokhara to Jomsom, a town about 125 miles northwest of Kathmandu, when it went down about one mile from the Jomsom Airport.

Nepalese officials say six people – a Nepali flight attendant, two Indian children, an Indian man, and a Danish man and woman – survived the crash. In addition to Sachdev and her mother, 11 Indian tourists and two Nepali pilots died.

Local authorities say it appears the aircraft had technical problems and was unable to land. The pilot was apparently turning around to return to Pokhara when the plane crashed. It broke apart upon impact, but did not catch fire. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
