Four U.S. Troops Killed in Roadside Bomb Attack in Afghanistan

Four American troops have been killed in a roadside bomb attack in western Afghanistan according to a report from NATO’s International Security Assistance Force.

All four soldiers were members of the ISAF and were killed when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device on Thursday.

There were also reports of two other roadside bomb attacks in Helmand province on Thursday that left five police officers and five civilians dead.

NATO forces have been trying to increase their presence in the volatile western areas of Afghanistan as the country prepares for its Aug. 20 presidential elections as well as provincial council elections. Violence in the region has increased significantly since the Taliban has ordered a boycott of the vote and vowed to block roads leading to polling stations.
