Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, Tim Duncan, and Steve Nash among stars leading their team to victories on Monday night.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Eric Dampier had 8 points and 15 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks (6-4) beat the Charlotte Bobcats (2-8) 93-85. It was the Mavericks sixth straight win after beginning the season 0-4. Charlotte was once again led by Emeka Okafor with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Adam Morrison had another rough night shooting going 3-14 for 7 points.
The Houston Rockets (7-4) went on the road and knocked off the New York Knicks (4-8) 97-90. Yao Ming had 26 points and 9 rebounds while Tracy McGrady finished with 24 points as the Knicks dropped their fifth home game of the year. New York was led by Channing Frye who had 22 points and 9 rebounds.
Despite being out-rebounded 50-37 the Memphis Grizzlies (2-8) surprised the Orlando Magic (7-4) 95-86. While they fell short on the glass, the Grizzlies won the battle of the turnovers committing only 8 giveaways compared to the Magic’s’ 17. Hakim Warrick led the Grizzlies with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Dwight Howard put up another 20/20 game with 24 points and 23 rebounds for Orlando.
Carlos Boozer had 35 points and 9 rebounds and Mehmet Okur added 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Utah Jazz (10-1) stayed perfect at home beating the Toronto Raptors (2-8) 101-96. The Jazz outscored the Raptors 30-19 in the fourth quarter and out-rebounded the Raptors 51-36 to capture the win. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Tim Duncan led San Antonio (9-2) with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists and the Spurs remained perfect on the road with a 107-98 win over the Portland Trail Blazers (5-7). Manu Ginobili finished with 25 points for the Spurs who moved to 6-0 on the road this year. Zach Randolph led the Trail Blazers with 23 points and 8 rebounds.
The Seattle Supersonics (5-7) used superb three-point shooting to knock off the visiting New Jersey Nets (5-5) 99-87. Ray Allen went for 29 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 4-11 from beyond the arch. Rashard Lewis added 20 points, 3-6 from three-point range as the Sonics shot nearly 42 percent from beyond the triple line. Vince Carter led the Nets with 27 points.
The Phoenix Suns (4-6) staged a furious fourth quarter rally to beat the Golden State Warriors (7-4) 113-110. The victory was the Suns first road win of the year. Phoenix was led by Steve Nash with 19 points and 15 assists and Boris Diaw had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Golden State was led by Monta Ellis who finished with 31 points and Andris Biedrins added 13 points and 15 rebounds.
