Risky Business Actress Janet Carroll Dies

Actress Janet Carroll, who made her big screen debut playing Tom Cruise’s mother in 1983’s Risky Business, has died. Variety reports Carroll passed away Tuesday, May 22 in New York at the age of 71. The cause of death is unclear.

Carroll grew up in Chicago and started her acting career on stage. Her role in Risky Business led to more than 20 other movie roles, including Enough, Forces of Nature, Family Business and The Killing Time. Carroll guest starred on dozens of popular TV shows like Touched By An Angel, 7th Heaven, Beverly Hills 90210, Ally McBeal, Scrubs and Brothers and Sisters. She had recurring roles on Murphy Brown, Married With Children and Melrose Place.

A memorial has been planned for Saturday at Advent Lutheran Church in Manhattan. Carroll is survived by her son, George.
