Drone Strike On Militant Hideout In Pakistan Kills 8

Officials in Pakistan confirm a militant hideout in a tribal district bordering Afghanistan was the target of a drone strike on Thursday.

Two missiles believed to be fired from an unmanned United States aircraft hit a house in the Hassokhel area of North Waziristan. At least eight Taliban militants were killed. A nearby mosque was damaged.

The attack follows a strike on Wednesday in which four people were killed. Pakistan officials say Wednesday’s drone strike also occurred in North Waziristan. Missiles struck a militant compound in Datakhel.

Pakistani authorities have previously condemned U.S. drone strikes as “counterproductive” to the fight against terrorism. "Drone attacks have become a core irritant in the counter-terror campaign. We have repeatedly said that such attacks are counterproductive and only contribute to strengthen the hands of the terrorists,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said last year.
