Woman Abandons 3 Young Children On Vacant Lot In Portland

Oregon authorities are trying to identify three young children who were abandoned on a vacant lot in Portland on Wednesday night. Several homeless people at the scene said a woman left the boy and two girls in a shed on the lot Wednesday night.

Police discovered the children Thursday morning after receiving a call from a man who reported hearing children’s voices coming from a shed near his property. The children were immediately taken into protective custody.

It is unclear if the children are siblings. Police say the youngest child, a girl, is between 8 and 15 months old. The second girl is estimated to be 2-years-old and the boy is believed to be 3-years-old. They all have olive skin, dark hair and brown eyes.

"We obviously have some questions for them about what happened and how this could have happened. But the really good news is the children are safe,” said police Lt. Robert King.

Anyone with information on the children is asked to call the Department of Human Services Child Abuse Hotline at 503-731-3100.
