There are no hard feelings between Martin Short and Kathie Lee Gifford. A day after Gifford mistakenly asked Short about his marriage to late wife Nancy in an interview on the Today Show, the actor brushed off the gaffe as a simple mistake.
"I think that it's live television and people make mistakes and there's no ill will intended," Short told E! News on Thursday. "And I think it's nice to aspire to be that way."
Short was on the Today Show to promote Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. Apparently unaware that Nancy died in 2010 of ovarian cancer, Gifford asked about the secret to their marriage.
"And you and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years now for you guys?" she asked.
"We ... have ... married ... 36 years," Short replied.
"But you are still like, in love?" asked Gifford.
"Madly in love, madly in love,” answered Short.
Gifford later acknowledged her mistake and apologized. She also tweeted an apology. "I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful,” she wrote.
