Canadian police have identified the murder and dismemberment victim of Luka Rocco Magnotta as 33-year-old Concordia University student Jun Lin. Lin, a Chinese national, was last seen on May 24. His murder was taped by Magnotta and posted online under the title “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pic.” Magnotta then mailed parts of Lin’s body to headquarters of political parties in Ottawa.
Magnotta, a model and adult film star, carried out the brutal crime in his Montreal apartment. The video reportedly shows Lin being stabbed repeatedly while tied to a bed. Magnotta then dismembers the body and performs cannibalistic acts.
Authorities say Lin and Magnotta, 29, were acquaintances. No other details about their relationship were released.
Police discovered Magnotta’s crime Tuesday when Conservative Party headquarters received a severed foot. A note in the package indicated five other body parts had been mailed. A severed hand addressed to the Liberal Party headquarters was recovered at a post office later that day and a torso was discovered in a suitcase outside Magnotta’s apartment building on Wednesday. Montreal police spokesman Commander Ian Lafrenière said several body parts remain missing.
“We are still missing a few parts of the puzzle in terms of body parts, so yes, this is a special crime scene,” Lafrenière said.
Magnotta, also known as Eric Clinton Newman, was added to Interpol’s most wanted list on Thursday. An international warrant for his arrest was also issued. Magnotta is described as having black hair, blue eyes and weighing around 135 pounds. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall. Authorities believe he fled to Paris last weekend.
