Authorities in northern Mexico say nearly a dozen people died over the weekend in a shooting at a drug rehabilitation center. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Police say the assailants arrived at the Your Life On the Rock rehab center in Torreon Sunday night in three vehicles. They stormed the center and opened fire with automatic rifles. Investigators counted 68 bullet casings at the scene. Eleven men were killed and 8 others were wounded. All of the victims have clean criminal records, according to prosecutors.
It is unclear if a drug cartel was behind the shooting. No other details were available.
Nearly 50,000 people have died in drug-related violence since December 2006 when President Felipe Calderon launched a campaign against drug cartels.
