Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. It can strike both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
Part of Hubbard’s commitment to run for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation team includes raising a minimum of $3,500. To help reach this fundraising goal, Hubbard is hosting a virtual 5K (3.1 miles) on Saturday, July 7th and Sunday, July 8th 2012. “The beauty of a virtual race is that people can participate in the event over a two day period, support a great cause and receive an event souvenir from anywhere in the world.”
Participants in the virtual 5K will run, walk, bike, roller skate, swim or do any other physical activity for 3.1 miles on either July 7th or 8th wherever they are, alone, with a group or even as a part of a local race. Hubbard is requesting a $20 donation to participate. The cost includes a custom-designed finisher’s medal provided by Iron Sport Works.
