American Idol Winner Phillip Phillips Fine After 6 Hr Kidney Surgery

American Idol winner Phillip Phillips is recovering from a 6 1/2 hour surgery to remove kidney stones. A rep for the singer confirms Phillips, who has a congenital kidney condition that causes large kidney stones to form, went under the knife on Wednesday.

"Surgery went well. He's resting,” his rep tells People magazine.

The 21-year-old is expected to be fully recovered by the time the Idols Live Tour kicks off in Detroit on July 6.

Throughout the American Idol season Phillips battled recurring kidney stones that required 8 surgeries, including one in which a stint was placed in his kidney. After Phillips beat out Jessica Sanchez for the Idol crown, his father said fans have “just seen a glimpse of what Phillip can do.” “We can't wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see how he can perform,” Phillips Sr. said.

"I can't wait for America and the whole world to see him [after his surgery], because he's a big cut-up. He's going to have some fun," he added.
