Religious School In Pakistan Targeted In Bomb Attack

Police in Pakistan’s Balochistan province say a Muslim religious school was the target of a bomb that detonated Thursday in the city of Quetta. The explosives were planted on a bicycle that was left outside the school.

Quetta Deputy Inspector General Qazi Wahid said a “certificate-awarding ceremony” was being held at the school at the time of the explosion. Fifteen people were killed and 48 others were injured. At least 5 children are among the dead.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani called for a thorough investigation and "expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of innocent lives.”

Several insurgent groups including Baloch separatists, Sunni Muslim militants, and Taliban militants are active in Balochistan province. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
