The Gibson men are apparently alike when it comes to contentious and controversial divorces. Mel’s 93 year-old father Hutton has filed for divorce from his wife of ten years alleging elder abuse in regards to his prescription drugs.
According to the allegations, Teddy Joye, Hutton’s estranged wife, is trying to presumably hasten his death by denying him medications. She insists the family is unnecessarily prolonging Hutton’s life through medication and says he feels the same way.
Hutton married Joye in 2002 after his first wife and Mel’s mother died. On the divorce documents Hutton requested spousal support and also requested that Joye pay his divorce attorney fees.
Mel is no stranger to controversial divorces; he had a long protracted battle with his first wife after he cheated on her with Oksana Grigoreiva. Mel was involved in expensive splits with both women, whose California divorce attorneys were able to obtain large settlements on their behalf.
Mel who is also accused of abusing Grigoreiva, rushed to his father’s aid alleging Joye was guilty of elder abuse.
When a marriage ends there are frequently issues that need to be reconciled like child custody and property division. When one of the divorcing parties is wealthy the estranged spouse may feel entitled to a sizable settlement in order to maintain their standard of living. If seeking a just settlement, it is important that both parties hire an experienced divorce lawyer in California to assure the courts take their needs into consideration.
