Actor Frank Cady, who is perhaps best known for playing general-store owner Sam Drucker on “Green Acres” and "Petticoat Junction," has died. Cady passed away Friday at his Wilsonville, Oregon home, according to his daughter Catherine Turk. Turk did not disclose the cause of death. Cady was 96.
Cady studied journalism and drama at Stanford University before joining the United States Army Air Force in 1943. He served overseas in World War II and was discharged in 1946. Cady began his acting career onstage in Los Angeles. He moved to film in the early 50s, appearing in movies like “When Worlds Collide,” “Ace in the Hole,” “Rear Window” and “The Bad Seed.” Cady had a recurring role on the ABC sitcom “Ozzie and Harriet” from 1954 to 1955. Cady also played Sam Drucker on “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
Cady’s wife of 68 years, Shirley, died in 2008. He is survived by two children, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
