North Carolina Realtors Give Money to Foreclosure Prevention Programs

\The foreclosure crisis is still affecting homeowners across the country and in North Carolina; over 50,000 homeowners in the state received default notices last year.

One thing that can help the economy and housing market recover is foreclosure prevention and counseling services. The North Carolina Realtors Association knows that stopping foreclosure is important and has allocated $50,000 to help fund counseling services for troubled homeowners.

In a statement, the Realtors Associating said, “Every day, Realtors help homeowners realize the American dream of home ownership. When times are tough, as they have been during this economic downturn in our state and nation, Realtors want to help people hold onto the American dream.”

In contrast to the NC Realtors announcement, North Carolina legislators announced last week they would be diverting funds from the national foreclosure settlement, which was awarded to help distressed homeowners, into non-housing initiatives.

Counseling services help troubled homeowners identify their options to stop foreclosure, along with helping them obtain the funds they need to hire foreclosure attorneys.

A North Carolina foreclosure lawyer will be able to determine which steps you can take to avoid foreclosure. You have options such as a short sale, a personal bankruptcy, or a mortgage modification, but the right choice depends on a number of factors.

If you have received a default notice it is in your best interest to contact a North Carolina foreclosure attorney immediately since this is a time sensitive manner.
