Beef Packers Inc. issued a recall Thursday for
approximately 825,769 pounds of ground beef. The U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service says the meat could be
responsible for an outbreak of the drug-resistant Newport Salmonella strain in
Colorado.
The recalled beef was produced between June 5 and June
23, 2009 and bears the establishment number ‘EST. 31913.’ It was distributed to
retail centers in Arizona, California, Colorado and Utah and packaged under
different names. Consumers are advised to check with stores to determine if
they have purchased recalled beef.
