Phillip Phillips is out of the hospital and on the mend after having kidney surgery. According to E! News, the American Idol champ was released from the hospital Sunday, four days after doctors removed large kidney stones in a 6 1/2 hour operation.
"I'm out of the hospital and back to work! Looking forward to the future,” Phillips tells E!.
Throughout the American Idol season Phillips battled recurring kidney stones that required 8 surgeries, including one in which a stint was placed in his kidney. After Phillips beat out Jessica Sanchez for the Idol crown last month, his father said fans have “just seen a glimpse of what Phillip can do.” “We can't wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see how he can perform,” Phillips Sr. said.
Phillips, 21, is expected to be fully recovered and ready to hit the road for the Idols Live Tour in July. The tour kicks off in Detroit on July 6. Phillips Sr. tells MySouthwestGA.com that his son is "real excited" about returning to the stage.
"He's exercising real good and he's going to be jammed up. He's been
waiting a while for this right here to happen and he's real excited to
get back into his music and give you what he's got. It's going to be a
different Phillip when you see him," says Phillips Sr.
