Actor David Arquette has finally filed for divorce from Courtney Cox after a two year split.
David and Courtney met on the set of the horror movie “Scream” in 1996 and married in 1999. Ending their 13 year marriage seemed difficult, as TMZ reported; it took Arquette since March when he signed the papers to actually file them in a Los Angeles court.
Arquette listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorcing Cox. The past couple of years have been tough on Arquette. He’s been through some ups and downs including a drug problem and subsequent stint in rehab. During the two years the couple were split Arquette held out some hope that he and Courtney would reconcile, but that has now proven to be unlikely.
Arquette is asking for joint physical custody of their eight year-old daughter. He however did not ask for spousal support.
Court documents show that Arquette will be representing himself, but didn’t mention if Courtney has hired a divorce attorney, if she is wise she will.
The divorce papers did not however state how the marital assets would be divided. Even when a couple is dissolving their marriages civilly, issues such as spousal support and property division as best handled by a divorce lawyer.
There are so many things for a couple to consider when filing for a divorce. And even when a split appears to be amicable, things can get complicated. A divorce attorney can make the transition from married to single life easier by getting their clients a final agreement they approve of.
