LeBron James Hints He’s Heading Towards Free-Agency, No Plans to Sign Extension

LeBron James, the reigning NBA MVP, has hinted that he will be testing the free-agent waters at the end of the 2009-10 season after saying he had no plans to accept a contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

LeBron, 24, addressed the matter at an event unveiling his latest Nike sneaker and told reporters, “I signed a contract in 2006 with an option. It would make no sense for me to sign that contract if I didn't keep my options open. I'll let you fill in the blanks.”

LeBron led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2007 where they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. In an effort to pair James with another dominate figure and show their commitment to winning Cleveland signed center Shaquille O’Neal for the upcoming NBA season.
