Tony Romo got a jump start in handing out presents during the holiday season as he passed for 5 touchdowns in the Dallas Cowboys route of the Tampa Bay Bucanners 38-10. The five touchdown passes tied a Cowboys record held by NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikeman.
The Cowboys fell behind early 7-0 when Mike Alstott capped an 80 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown burst. That was about all the offense Tampa could offer as Tony Romo began cutting up the Bucs defense along the way to a record tying performance.
Romo hit Terry Glenn on a 30-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. He connected again with Glenn to begin the second quarter, this time a 2 yard dump pass in the end zone.
Matt Bryant was able to get the Bucs back on the board with a 46 yard field goal to cut the lead to four, but the Cowboys responded with three more touchdown passes from Romo.
The Dallas quarterback found Marion Barber III with less than one minute left in the opening half for a 1-yard touchdown pass and then started the second half with another 2-yard touchdown pass to Barber.
Not wanting to leave anybody out of an end zone celebration, Romo then found Terrell Owens on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Owens then deposited the ball in the giant Salvation Army Red Bucket positioned behind the goalpost.
Romo finished with 307 passing yards to go alongside her five touchdown passes.
The Cowboys defense played big as well, holding the Tampa Bay offense to just 212 total yards and picking off Bruce Gradkowki twice.
