Michael Richards, the actor who played the eccentric character Cosmo Kramer on the hit show “Seinfeld”, has hired well known publicist Howard Rubenstein in an attempt to repair his damaged reputation. It a damaged reputation that was self-inflicted when Richards launched into a racial tirade in response to a pair of black hecklers last Friday at an LA comedy club.
By Monday a video of Richards’ set at The Laugh Factory had surfaced on the internet and clearly showed a man that had snapped. Richards repeatedly called the men racial slurs after they had criticized his routine.
Since the tape went public Richards has become a pariah of sorts. With the exception of long time friend Jerry Seinfeld, Richards has found it hard to find anybody that will associate with him.
On Wednesday he hired Howard Rubenstein, a well known publicist with strong ties to the black community. Rubenstein arranged for Richards to speak with the Rev Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Jackson said Richards called “expressing his remorse and his confusion.” Jackson went on to say “Clearly he needs some race sensibility training, and some psychiatric help. His anger is volatile and dangerous to himself and others.”
