Social Media Now the Virtual Voice for Human Rights

Poet Larry Jaffe, Poet Laureate for the Youth of Human Rights International, uses Twitter to educate people on their human rights.

Everyone has the right to life according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  But Poet Larry Jaffe questions whether people know what their human rights really are.  Jaffe, dedicated to telling the world about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, has committed to teaching each human-rights article via Twitter in 140 characters or less.  Human Rights is clearly an issue, evidence by Americans twittering the right to free speech against the proposed healthcare bill while other members of mankind are twittering the concern over women’s rights in Africa, to executions in Iran, to Chinese human rights advocates falling under suspicious political arrest.

“People, who KNOW their [human] rights, are more likely to stand up - not just for themselves, but for others,” says Jaffe.   “Get these rights taught to our children so they know their birthright."

Jaffe’s past weekly twoems, listed below, have been getting traction far and wide…making Twitter Jaffe’s virtual voice for peace.

Article 1. Born free and equal.

o   Dignified stars/Soaring through infinity/Autonomous born/Individuals/Hands linked in freedom

Article 2. Don’t discriminate.

o   Looking through hate’s glasses/He shatters the lenses/So he can see again/Don’t discriminate

Larry’s third Twitter poem on Article 3, The Right to Life was released this morning.  The new twoem can be found by searching @larryjaffe on Twitter.
