The Miami Herald Evacuated After Gunman Enters Newspaper Building

A man who had reportedly been fired by the Miami Herald entered the sixth floor of the newspaper building on Friday carrying two guns and looking for his former editor.

Dressed in camouflage and carrying an arsenal that included a machine gun, the man was seeking El Nuevo Herald Executive Editor Humberto Castello. El Nuevo Herald is the nation’s largest Spanish-language newspaper and is published by The Miami Herald Media Co.

Castello was not in the building at the time the man entered but about 12-15 employees were present. Police don’t believe anybody in the building is in danger but they have not released any information concerning hostages or injuries.

Employees at The Miami Herald were told to evacuate as police set up a perimeter around the building.
