Hip-Hop artist DMX’s Wife Officially Files for Divorce

Phoenix, AZ- Hip-Hop star DMX, real name Earl Simmons was shocked when his wife filed for divorce even though the couple has been separated since 2010.

“He couldn’t believe it,” Tashera told Essence, “I don’t know why. After going through all the stuff we did – after he did all the things he has done and after us going through therapy—I was just like, I couldn’t leave (the show) without asking for divorce.”

The show Tashera was referring to is “Couple’s Therapy,” were the couple discussed their failing marriage. DMX is accused of numerous instances of infidelity, one of the leading reasons people hire divorce attorneys. The couple split in 2010 after 13 years of marriage.

DMX has six children with different women. He and Tashera have four children together.

DMX has had a tumultuous life with numerous criminal charges and various stints in prison. Most states grant divorces easily to women whose spouses have served a prison sentence.

Ending a 13 year marriage can be a complicated process. After so many years together a couple will have a great deal of community property and assets to divide. A divorce lawyer can make t this task a bit simpler for the couple through mediation and by informing each party of their legal rights.

The biggest concern for most couples is custody of children. When a couple is unable to come up with an agreeable custody arrangement, a divorce attorney will be instrumental determining custody and support.
