Police in northwest Pakistan say it appears the Taliban is not linked to the shooting death of Ghazala Javed, a Pakistani singer popular among Pashtuns in the Middle East. Police official Imtiaz Altaf told CNN Javed’s ex-husband, Jehangir Khan, and two other suspects are wanted in connection with the shooting.
Javed and her father Mohammad Javed died in Peshawar Monday night after gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on their vehicle as they left a beauty salon in the Mohallah Nau Dabgari Bazar. Javed’s younger sister, Farhat Bibi, survived the shooting and told police Kahn was responsible.
The Javeds were pronounced dead upon arrival at Lady Reading Hospital. Ghazala had been shot six times in her upper body.
