United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo where she is expected to address the continued human rights violations that have devastated the country during its lengthy civil conflict.
Clinton has already visited Kenya, South Africa and Angola as part of her seven-nation tour of the African continent designed to deliver the message that Africa was a key part of the foreign policy being implemented by President Barack Obama.
While in DR Congo Clinton will be meeting with President Joseph Kabila where the focus will be on ending the human rights atrocities that have become commonplace during the country’s civil conflict. Those human rights violations, including mass rapes, have been blamed on not only rebel forces but government troops as well.
Following her stop in DR Congo Clinton will visit Nigeria, Liberia and Cape Verde before returning to the United States.
