June 21, 2012 (Nashville, TN) – Dr. Scott Balogh joined the staff of La Paloma Treatment Center in December 2011, bringing his expertise in the areas of psychiatry and addiction medicine to the prominent Memphis, Tennessee-based facility. Specializing in co-occurring disorders, La Paloma provides integrated treatment to those suffering from addiction and mental health conditions. Through the use of the Foundations Treatment Model, La Paloma’s specially trained staff members address the complex needs of each individual.
Dr. Balogh is board certified by the National Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the Board of Addiction Medicine. He has been practicing psychiatry for more than 20 years, working in the field of addictive disorders in many different capacities for three decades.
A University of Nebraska at Omaha graduate, Dr. Balogh also attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for his MD, where he was named Outstanding Medical Student in Psychiatry. He then went on to complete his psychiatric residency at Creighton/Nebraska Combined Department of Psychiatry, where he earned additional honors.
Dr. Balogh was trained to do individual and group therapy by a Kohutian analyst and an Adlerian analyst, and he has worked in acute care and long-term psychiatric wards. His experience also includes work at VA hospitals with Vietnam veterans suffering from PTSD and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. Dr. Balogh was a correctional psychiatrist for six years in the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he worked with substance abuse patients who were incarcerated for convictions related to drugs or alcohol. He was also in private practice for 10 years, where he began a partial hospital treatment program for adolescents and young adults.
