Mitt Romney Outlines Immigration Reform to Latino Leaders

After days of prodding, Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney outlined his approach to immigration reform to a group of Latino lawmakers in Florida earlier today.

“Immigration reform is not only a moral imperative, but an economic issue as well,” Romney told the crowd. Romney said in the speech he would overhaul the green card system for immigrants with family and remove immigration caps for their spouses and minor children.

While President Obama has not been able to reform the immigration system as he said in the 2008 election, he did try to have the DREAM Act passed in 2010, which was defeated in the Republican controlled house. Romney had previously vowed to veto the DREAM Act, if it passed.

The DREAM Act would allow a pathway to citizenship for young immigrants who attend American schools and colleges and for those who serve in the military. The DREAM Act would have given thousands of young immigrants the chance to come out of the shadows and get the opportunity to obtain visas and eventual citizenship.

Romney said under his policies, immigrants who serve in the military would be allowed to apply for citizenship, but didn’t sate whether he would approve of other provisions in the DREAM Act or what he would do about the hundreds or thousands of young illegal immigrants.

An immigration attorney can make it easier for an illegal to obtain a legal presence, but there are still many challenges they face.

The first step of the legal immigration process is to obtain a visa; this is no small task, since there are generally caps on the number available visas each year.  An immigration lawyer will be able to determine which visas a hopeful immigrant can get and help them through the entire process.

Regardless of you immigration issue whether it is deportation or obtaining a visa, an immigration attorney will do everything in their power to help.
