Regis Philbin A Favorite To Join Today Show In Reshuffle

With NBC reportedly contemplating a reshuffle on the Today show to ax Ann Curry from her co-hosting position alongside Matt Lauer, Regis Philbin is rumored to be a favorite to join the show’s lineup. Insiders tell RadarOnline.com show bosses are considering making Hoda Kotb Curry’s replacement. That would mean Kotb would no longer host her fourth hour segment with Kathie Lee Gifford. Philbin is said to be the first choice to fill Kotb’s position.

A source tells Radar NBC bosses "absolutely love Regis, and want to formally sign him to become a special contributor to Today and work with the network on entertainment specials. If Hoda is chosen to become Matt Lauer's co-anchor, Regis would be the natural choice to replace her.”

Philbin, 80, and Gifford, 58, previously worked together on Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee for 15 years.

Meanwhile, NBC is rumored to be offering Curry $10 million to leave Today. Recent low ratings and Curry’s apparent lack of chemistry with Lauer is said to be at the heart of NBC’s problem. Neither the network nor Curry, 55, has commented.

Before taking over for Meredith Vieira as co-host of Today in June 2011, Curry worked as the show’s news anchor for 14 years.
