Brooks and Dunn Split After 20 Years

Country music duo Brooks and Dunn have decided to split after 20 years of singing together. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn announced the split Monday on their Web site. They will part ways after a 2010 tour.

“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it’s time [to] call it a day. This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed… We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time,” a statement on their web site says.

Brooks and Dunn first hit the country music charts in 1991 with the first four singles from their debut album Brand New Man. It sold more than 6 million copies. They won the Top Duo award at the Country Music Awards every year from 1992 through 2006 except in 2000 when Montgomery Gentry broke the streak.

They won two Grammy Awards and three American Music Awards. Brooks and Dunn have been one of the few duos to be named Entertainer of the Year.

Their next album, #1s…and then some, will be a collection of 28 of their greatest hits. It hits stores on September 8, 2009.
