Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a sister of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 88. After suffering a number of strokes over the past few years Kennedy Shriver had been admitted to the Cape Cod Hospital earlier this week where her health continued to deteriorate.
Kennedy Shriver may best be remembered for her constant work with and for mentally disabled individuals. She was credited with founding the Special Olympics and organizing their first Games in 1968.
Eunice Kennedy was the fifth of nine children of Joseph P Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. She is the mother of TV host Maria Shriver.
