Four Acrimonious Years Later, Christie Brinkley Settles Divorce

Supermodel Christie Brinkley and ex Peter Cook were scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to finalize their acrimonious divorce, but hashed out a deal before their court appearance.

Brinkley and Cook split four years ago after he admitted to sleeping with an 18 year-old woman, and the fight has been raging ever since. The estranged couple has been fighting about small amounts of money and child custody, all the while sending angry emails and dragging each other through the mud.

Now they have come up with a final divorce settlement that may end the fighting, but not the bitterness. Often times a divorce attorney is the voice of reason in a divorce struggle and can help an embittered couple draft an agreeable settlement.

Last Friday, a Long Island judge urged the couple to come up with an agreement ahead of their court date, stating it was in the best interest of their children.

The settlement includes a non-verbal contact clause and the appointment of a third party to help the Brinkley and Cook parent their children in a civil manner.

It is never in the best interest of children to continuously insult your estranged spouse in their presence, and this behavior can be used by divorce lawyers as evidence against you, jeopardizing your final financial settlement and child custody arrangement.

The emotions that arise when a couple dissolves their marriage can be powerful. Anger, bitterness, resentment and the need for revenge can complicate a divorce proceeding, that’s why it is important to have a divorce attorney on your side to prevent you from saying or doing things that will threaten your final settlement.
